Nissan Sales Up 5.6%

Nissan Motor Co Ltd reported sales at US Nissan dealerships rose 5.6% from October of 2008, making Nissan one of the few automakers to post an increase in October sales.

Honda Sales Up – Acura Sales Down

TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ — American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted total October vehicle sales of 85,502, a decline of 4.0 percent compared to October 2008, based on the daily selling rate*. Honda Division posted October sales of 75,751, a decline of five units versus October 2008.

Honda total car sales decreased by 4.4 percent, to 44,537. Honda light-truck sales decreased 2.3 percent, to 31,214. Models showing sales increases included Accord with sales of 23,210, up 13.1 percent; CR-V with sales of 15,667, up 14.7 percent; and Pilot with sales of 6,339, up 22.7 percent.

The Acura Division posted sales of 9,751 units, a decline of 7.0 percent compared to October 2008. The MDX was the best-selling vehicle with 3,834 units, up 23.0 percent; RDX was up 41.9 percent; and the TSX posted gains of 20.2 percent for the month.

*The daily selling rate is calculated with 28 days for October 2009 and 27 days for October 2008. The year-to-date daily selling rate is calculated with 257 days for both October 2009 and October 2008. All percentages reflect the daily selling rate.

Hyundai Sales Up 48.9% In October

Hyundai Motor Co. (HYMLF) on Tuesday reported a 48.9% increase in U.S. sales to 31,005 vehicles from 20,820 in October 2008. Sales of Genesis, the luxury model, rose 65% to 1,850 units. “With the recent encouraging economic news of a 3.5% GDP growth during the third quarter, the best in two years, we are looking forward to the final two months of the year,” said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai’s vice president of sales.

Chrysler Says October Sales Down 30 Percent

NEW YORK — Chrysler Group LLC said Tuesday its October auto sales fell 30 percent compared with the same period last year, as sales across nearly every model declined.

BY THE NUMBERS: Total sales fell to 65,803 last month from 94,530 in October 2008. For the first ten months of the year, sales tumbled 39 percent to 781,319 compared with 1.28 million in the same period last year.

Ford Says October Sales Up 3 Percent

Ford says it’s October sales were up 3 percent compared to a year ago and 21 percent higher than September sales. It’s the third time in the last four months Ford sales have increased.

Ford’s overall car sales rose 11 percent over last October, while crossovers climbed 23 percent, Ford said Tuesday. Truck sales fell 10 percent. New products like the Ford Taurus sedan and Lincoln MKT crossover sold well. More than 80 percent of last month’s sales came from new 2010 models.

Fuel-efficient models like the Ford Fusion sedan and Escape small sport utility vehicle also flew off showroom floors, which both notching sales jumps of around 25 percent.

Ford analyst George Pipas says these are good signs.

“Consumer confidence is going to play a large roll in this and I think it will take some time before sales get up to high levels,” Pipas told WWJ’s Jeff Gilbert.

Ford says its total market share in October was more than 15 percent – higher than a year ago and higher than its share in the first nine months of 2009. Ford said it marked the 12th time in 13 months that its U.S. market share rose as it continues to grab buyers from competitors.
