Last week, a photo was shared on Twitter showing what was supposed to be the new 2019 Nissan LEAF (complete with longer-range battery pack when compared to the 2018 Nissan LEAF) charging at a CHAdeMO DC quick charging station inside the lab of EVTEC at a rate of 102 kW — more than twice the maximum charging speed of the current Nissan LEAF.
The photo, shared with very little information (other than confirming that the vehicle in question had a battery pack approximately 60 kWh in size), but seems to back up leaked specifications from earlier this year. That leak suggests that the 2019 Nissan LEAF will be offered in an optional “E-Plus” variant, with a larger 64 kWh batter pack, a more powerful 160 kW motor, and a much beefier on-board charger.
That vehicle, more expensive than the current LEAF, would certainly compete more directly with the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt Ev and entry-level Tesla Model 3 (when that comes to market)
So the question is this: should you buy a 2018 Nissan LEAF, or wait for the 2019 based on these unconfirmed specs?
