The second generation of the best-selling electric models in the world brings modern design, revolutionary features, and autonomy in the driving of nearly 400 km.
Exterior design completely changed but the Leaf is now more like a conventional Nissan model with the distinctive grille in the shape of the letter “V”.
To attract new customers, the Japanese manufacturer has followed the latest design trends, such as “floating” roof, “hidden” C pillars, or two-tone body, and the result is a car that should be attractive to the average consumer of the Nissan LEAF 1.
Dimensions of the second generation also changed from its predecessor. Leaf 2 is longer by 35 mm higher and 10 mm wider and 20 mm, while the center of gravity lowered by 5 mm. Wheelbase remained unchanged at 2,700 mm, and the curb weight is 1,535 kg.
Leaf 2 is powered by an electric power of 150 hp (110 kW) and maximum torque is 320 Nm. Electric power unit supplied with power from a lithium-ion battery capacity of 40 kWh. Top speed is limited to 144 km / h, for the rational consumption of electricity.
Speaking about the autonomy of the ride, and this is one of the most important parameters for every potential buyer of electric cars, it varies depending on the organization that conducts testing and measuring method. Nissan has announced that according to the US EPA test 2 Leaf can travel about 240 km before the batteries run out, while the European NEDC test assesses the autonomy to run on as many as 378 km.
In order to supplement the battery fully takes 16 hours if the used connection of 3 kW, and 8 hours on one of 6 kW. With the help of a quick charger, the battery can make up to 80% capacity in just 40 minutes.
Besides the new design, the Nissan Leaf 2 has a number of advanced driver assistance systems, to counter competition. Probably the most important pro pilot semi-autonomous driving system, which allows the vehicle to autonomously moves within the lane, at speeds of 30 km / h to 100 km / h.
One of the most important innovations in the model Leaf 2 e-Pedal. It is a technology that gives full control over the movement of the vehicle switches to a single pedal, which thus also serves as an accelerator and a brake.
Namely, when pressed gas vehicle speeds, and releasing the accelerator will not only take away the gas is already engaged and the brake. When the pedal is released, the vehicle stops. Nissan has announced that it is the first system to operate a vehicle with one foot and that this technology “covers 90 percent of the need to drive.” It certainly means that for the remaining ten percent that is still good old brakes, and the e-pedal system exceeds desired by the driver, by pressing a button.
