2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS – Review

2011 Hyundai Sonata

2011 Hyundai Sonata

I test a lot of new cars, so it takes a lot to surprise me. But I actually looked forward to spending a week with a new Hyundai Sonata GLS…..and I actually liked it!

The previous generation of Sonata, the ugly stepsister to the Camry and Accord was long a staple of rental car companies across the country, and though they were solid and durable they weren’t much to look at.

The 2011 is a totally different vehicle from the ground up. From it’s
“Cool…..what’s that?” exterior, to it’s spacious and comfortable interior Hyundai is on track for record Sonata sales.

Powered by an all new gasoline direct injection (GDI) 2.4-liter 4-cylinder delivers both great fuel economy and 198 horsepower.

Another change to the Sonata…..Hyundai no longer offers the Sonata with a 6 cylinder engine, opting instead to go with the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder and the soon to arrive turbo charged version.

Now I know what you’re thinking…..you only want a 6 cylinder right?

Drive the new Sonata and you won’t miss the extra 2 cylinders. Hyundai has designed the new Sonata to be hundreds of pounds lighter than competitors.

You’ll notice the very smooth 6 speed automatic transmission that gives you a much smoother ride than the 5 speed Camrys and Accords.

A self-shifting feature is available for sportier driving on the GLS, while the SE trim level gets paddle shifters.

The 2011 Sonata GLS’s list of standard features include….
16-inch steel wheels
remote keyless entry
air-conditioning
cruise control
power windows, lock and heated sideview mirrors
a tilt-and-telescoping steering column with cruise and steering wheel mounted audio controls
a trip computer
a 60/40-split rear seatback
a six-speaker stereo with AM/FM/CD and XM Radio, plus an aux jack for iPod or mp3 player
Bluetooth with phonebook download
and much more….

All in all a great car, and great value for the money.
